How To Use The iPhone Gmail App
When the iPhone was first launched, iPhone developers quickly learned Apple didn’t hesitate to enforce its application standards on application store developers. Luckily, over time, Apple loosened up on some of the applications that competed more directly with them, including mail. You can now install Google’s Gmail application directly on the iPhone and other iOS devices.
If you use Mail on your iOS device to mostly read and file email, versus responding and following up on email, the Gmail app has several advantages over the native Mail application. The screen offers instant filing of the message(s) from the inbox view; messages can be starred for follow up / sorting later; and if you use Google’s archive features, then those archived messages can be accessed with two simple clicks. It is also an easy way to share a device between two users and keep the each user’s email separate.
Gmail can be downloaded from the Apps store and at this link. After you install the application and start it, you will be prompted for your Gmail account username and password as shown here.

It Looks Like That Microsoft Preparing iPad Office Version
From Jay Greene, a CNET senior writer: Microsoft is prepping a version of its Office productivity software to run on Apple’s iPad, according to The Daily.
The iPad-based news outlet, citing “sources,” reported that Microsoft is working to adapt Office for Apple’s tablet. The app could arrive before the next version of Office for Mac, which is expected to debut late next year.
Microsoft didn’t comment directly on the report.
“We already deliver Office on multiple platforms and devices and are committed to expanding in the future, but have nothing further to share today,” the company said in a statement.
Microsoft already offers a handful of apps for both the iPad and the iPhone, including Bing and Windows Live Messenger, among others. Creating Office for the iPad could help the device’s prospects in work environments, a market where it’s already making inroads at the expense of Windows PCs.

How To Protect Sensitive Information on Android and iOS
From Good Technology, Inc.:
Let’s face it: IT administrators in America’s top corporations have their hands full protecting company information in a world gone mobile. Smartphones, and the smart employees who use them, can often circumvent security procedures, forwarding confidential memos or attachments to other phones or alternate email accounts without consideration for the vulnerability of that information.
Rather than limit access to information, today’s IT departments are finding new ways to safeguard the behaviors of their mobile workforce regardless of the devices they choose and prevent data loss or leakage across their networks. Here’s how they do it:
1. They start by enforcing strong passwords
Successful IT departments seek mobile device management solutions that allow them to enforce password policies, disable sequential numbers in passwords, or specify password timeouts. Many institute a remote wipe of specific applications and their data or wipe of the entire device after a failed number of incorrect passwords has been entered.
2. They secure both the device and the applications
IT administrators must be allowed to set and manage security policies at the application level, as well as at the device level. For example, implementing complex password policies at the application level provides a less intrusive user experience while ensuring corporate security. Device-level encryption cannot address risky behavior that occurs within applications themselves when users inadvertently share corporate data through 3rd party apps and cloud services. Even when phones are provisioned through an MDM solution, administrators simply have no control of security at the app level. By providing security and control at both app and device levels, IT can further reduce the risk of data loss.
3. They use strong encryption on the device and OTA
Diligent administrators insist on the strongest encryption and enforce the toughest authentication policies over-the-air. Because not all mobile devices support encryption, email and attachments stored on the device can easily be viewed by anyone. Security-conscious IT professionals ensure that all data gets strong AES 192-bit encryption even data that’s in transit between a device and servers behind your firewall. All information is secured throughout a complete end-to-end system.
4. They quickly respond to lost or stolen devices
When a mobile device becomes misplaced, lost, or stolen, the most secure companies act swiftly to eliminate risk of lost data. Through the use of web-based controls, administrators use any nearby browser to access a universal dashboard to instantly view and manage all mobile devices in their workforce from virtually anywhere, anytime and remotely wipe information from within apps or across the entire device.

How to Transfer Business Data to iPads and iPhones
You get a request every day it seems from executives who want IT to give them the ability to download critical business data to their iPads or iPhones. These executives don’t care what it takes; they just want to see this important information quickly and easily, and they expect you to respond fast. Rather than stress out, let’s talk about a solution that gives employees the information they want, and the control IT needs. If your company is like most, the proliferation of both employee- and company-owned mobile devices, particularly iPads and iPhones, is driving demand for access to corporate data. But in most companies, there is little support for such access. There is great dissatisfaction with the level of support IT provides for consumer technologies in the workplace, a 2011 IDC survey1 of 2,820 information workers and 610 C-level executives, vice presidents, director-level IT personnel, and business-unit level executives from 10 countries found. This lack of access to business data is getting harder to justify. Executives, business managers, knowledge workers, and other employees already use iPads and iPhones to surf the Web, get email, and conduct other tasks directly related to their work. So they also want (and in many cases insist on) access to the sales, inventory, customer, and other data they need to perform their jobs, be more efficient, and make timely decisions.
Delivering what users want
The information users need is often stored in SQL databases, Excel spreadsheets, and a variety of other data sources. Access to raw data can be helpful, but employees often want their data in easy to read reports and charts. IT organizations are especially…

Google Offers Now Application Search Option
Google offers “Application” search choice:
With Google being such a beast, that hides behind one of the most minimal facades on the planet, it sometimes takes a while for people to realise significant changes have been implemented at the search giant.
New search option arrives without any Fanfair:
For instance the news that “Applications” is now a filter choice next to “Blogs” “News” “Images” “Videos” on the left hand side of your google search results comes as a surprise to me. I can however confirm that this feature is not currently working for google.co.uk search options but does work when I switch to .com and there is indeed an “Application” filter in the google result options on the left.
Google offers “Application” search choice
This feature does make a lot of sense as finding “apps” is often a nightmare, though this move does potentially hit GetJar and such like where it hurts.
I say potentially, as it could be a possibility that the sheer rank weight of a site like GetJar may end up giving favourable results for them, its all gravy in the end for Google really.
I have not fully tested how the algorithm might work,
